SPRING MAIZE INTER-CROP IN PAIRED ROW PLANTING
This technology can help in multi-cropping and diversification of agriculture greatly in Northern India and improve the economics of sugarcane crop. The production of sunflower which otherwise affects the cane crop adversely when sown as inter-crop in closer cane inter-row spacing of 75-90 cm would increase considerably with wider inter-row spacing as there is no adverse effect of sunflower on cane. Similarly the potential of spring maize production would also increase vastly with this technology. This crop geometry of wider inter-row spacing of 135-150 cm and paired row planting can be adopted on a large scale to improve cane yield, sugar recovery and also obtain additional intercrops, which will help in popularizing multiple cropping and diversification of agriculture to fetch more income to the farmers.
