TRANSPLANTING

The plantlets from the shade house at 4-5 leaf stage are transplanted in the field with inter-row spacing of 90 cm and intra-row spacing of 60 cm from plant to plant. It has been observed that these spacings can be increased to 120 cm and 90 cm respectively. While transplanting, the polybag cover should be removed with a blade, earth ball fitted in the mini pit dug at the base of the furrow and then fully covered with soil. Irrigation should be applied immediately after transplanting. Recommended dose of N,P,K and micro nutrients should also be applied before transplanting in the furrows. These young transplanted plantlets are more susceptible to shoot borer which should be controlled with soil application of Chloropyriphos at planting time.
